Public Art is an integral part of community development and livability. The Calhoun County Arts Council chooses yearly projects across Calhoun County to enhance tourism and a sense of community pride.
In 2008-2009, the AIC’s Public Art project was the mural at Fort Custer Industrial Park. After brainstorming ideas for the mural that was to represent life and the manufacturing heritage of Battle Creek and the Fort Custer area, community volunteers, under the direction of artist Conrad Kaufman of Galesburg, Michigan, added their talent to complete the mural. The beautiful finished product – a 10.5’ x 60’ design on the south wall of the Frederick R. Brydges Customs Cargo Center – can be seen at 4950 W. Dickman Road in Battle Creek.
