Chair/Director Statement Built in 1882, the Tibbits Opera House is among the oldest theatres in Michigan. Rich in history and ambiance, the theatre even today offers theatre-goers nearly perfect acoustics, an intimate 499-seat setting, and a fine array of performances throughout the year.
Organization Description Historic Tibbits Opera House presents year-round entertainment. It has developed an outstanding reputation for its professional Summer Theatre, which USA Today called one of “10 great places to see the lights way off Broadway.” The summer of 2007 will offer 4 main shows and 4 Popcorn Theatre shows for the young and young-at-heart. Through the rest of the year, Tibbits Entertainment Series offers a variety of touring performers and something for every taste. Educational opportunities, arts gallery shows and community events round out the year. Tibbits this year celebrates its 125th anniversary. As the entertainment continues, Tibbits volunteers are actively pursuing the dream of restoration currently raising funds to restore the original Second Empire facade.
